The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles hosted the Alta Hawks in the UHSAA 5A Quarterfinal.
The offense started with the first score with a Tyler Nelson 29 yard TD run. In the Second Quarter Tyler Nelson ran for another 36 yard TD but was injured on the tackle just across the goal line with a season ending injury. Hunter Bezzant was able to come in as QB and throw a 29 yard TD pass to Kyson Hall. Thomas Weight was able to rush for a TD. The Golden Eagles looked like they had the game in hand but the Alta Hawks scored with 13 seconds left in the first half and shifted the momentum. The Golden eagles were able to score again in the 4th with a Quinlin Jackson 53 yard touchdown run. Then Thomas Weight sealed the win with a 2 yard TD run.
The Golden Eagles had 280 Yards of total offense with 197 rushing yards, and Tyler Nelson was 2 for 2 with 23 yards in passing and Hunter Bezzant was 6 for 11 with 60 yards of passing and one passing TD. Seth Krommenhoek was 4 of 6 in PATs.
The defense allowed 333 yards and stopped the Hawks on three 4th down attempts and played strong when it was needed. Derek Blanthorn had 8.5 tackles Cole McAllister had 5.5 tackles one sack and a interception. Cam Simmons had 5.5 tackles. Andrew Jensen had 4.5 tackles.
The Golden Eagles advance to the semi-finals for only the second time in school history. They will take on the Orem Tigers on Friday November 13th in St George at Dixie State.
